halifax & district amateur radio society events the committee membership history of club construction projects digi-modes /p activities -- welcome to the web-site of the halifax & district amateur radio society the society meets every tuesday at the church of the good shepherd, new road, mytholmroyd, hx7 5ea (adjacent to mytholmroyd railway station) starting at 19:00hrs. these meetings might include a presentation on a specialist subject by a guest speaker, construction, discussion, teaching, sessions on air, morse training or other activities or, in summer months, /p working. we also encourage a range of technical, instructional and social events to promote the development of all radio amateurs, be they newcomers to the hobby or the already advanced amateur. if you would like to become a radio amateur, then please read this page which tells you how to achieve it. we can provide training at foundation, intermediate and advanced level and have a good record of exam passes at all three levels. we seem to be running foundation training courses almost all the time but we do run intermediate and advanced courses as and when required - generally, it's when we have sufficient candidates. for further details contact: tony on 01422 822636 or by email to [email protected] . our calendar for the next few months is still to be arranged - please refer back here in a couple of weeks. any activities will be reported under the 'club /p activities' page for each year for details and pictures about what we got up to in past years, follow the links below:- club /p activities and pictures received from the international space station by gary 2e0fyr club /p activities and chota in 2018 club /p activities and chota in 2017 club /p activities and chota in 2016 ssb field day and chota 2015 club /p activities in 2015 club /p activities in 2014 club /p activities in 2013 club /p activities in 2012 notes please note: the club will not be meeting on tuesday 25th december or on tuesday 1st january 2019 -- we run a clubnet in conjunction with the west yorkshire rafars on thursday evenings from 19:00-20:00 clock time on 145.350 if the frequency is clear. the net controller is bill g4iod. to help newly-licensed members, hadars holds a net on wednesday evenings from 18:00 utc to about 19:00 utc and everyone is welcome to join in whether or not they are a club member. the local repeater keepers have kindly given us permission to use gb3hd for the net so you will need to set your receiver to 433.225 mhz, your transmitter to 434.825 mhz (that's the standard +1.6 mhz split for 70cm repeaters) and the ctcss tone to 82.5 hz. the ctcss tone must be set on transmit but, if desired by the user, can also be set on receive meaning that the squelch need not be used. please remember, there is a 5 minute time-out on gb3hd analogue - if you exceed the 5 minutes, you may still be transmitting but no-one else will hear you and you may not hear someone replying to your over. if you do need more than 5 minutes for your over, then all you need to do is to drop the carrier by releasing the ptt and then re-key the ptt. because of the repeater coverage, you shouldn't generally need to use more than 10w although a good antenna will make a big difference - don't rely on the "rubber duck" aerials fitted as standard to the handheld transceivers. if you're remote from the repeater (situated at outlane, near the m62 between halifax and huddersfield) or in a difficult position, we suggest using something similar to the sotabeam 2m dipole (situated vertically) which works quite well on 70cm.
